Fate of Cthulhu Timeline • The Rise of Tsathoggua

In this 47-page timeline for Fate of Cthulhu, your Resistance agents seek to stop Tsathoggua the Devourer, the mythical Frog God. Can you disrupt the four events that led to his Arrival? Or will you succumb to the hunger that stirs within you?

In 2040, tens of thousands gather around a sprawling complex of Mayan ruins. At its center, a large circular stone plaza inscribed with strange characters depicts a rare conjunction of stars and planets. As night comes and the stars align, a robed stranger comes forward, holding a large manuscript and leading the swaying masses in an eerie chant. An enormous sinkhole opens, swallowing hundreds of people. Despite the wet crunching noises coming from the widening chasm, the singing continues, only increasing in fervor. Those who falter are urged forward to meet their god.

A gigantic hairy hand appears, grabbing dozens of people at a time and throwing them in a gaping mouth, barely visible in the unfathomable depths of the abyss. Mesmerized bystanders gaze in horror as Tsathoggua slowly rises from the depths of the Black Gulf of N’Kai to feed on humanity. Ever-shifting strands of black ichor lurch out, piercing flesh and draining their victims to feed the Frog God.

Across the rest of the world, cultists abase themselves in disturbing rituals of sacrifice to feed their loathsome god. Altars to Tsathoggua are revealed, with pits of formless writhing spawns that serve as a mystical channel to feed the essence of victims to the Devourer. Even more terrifying are the thousands of people who continue to travel by any means available to willingly enter the gaping mouth of Tsathoggua.

Humanity has become cattle, and there is nowhere safe to hide. Hordes of twisted humans with beastly features emerge from caves and forests, corralling local populations to either march them to slaughter or gather them in pens. The Shepherds are merciless, feasting gruesomely on those who attempt to resist and cowing others into submission. They have left just enough humans roaming wild to breed future generations, and fulfill their own hunger for an endless hunt.

Hiding from the Shepherds and wary of the cultists growing among the free folks, a Resistance has formed. They have gathered Eldritch tech from Tsathoggua’s minions and scoured what few archives remain. Their leaders have formed a daring plan: travel back to 2019, and stop the events that led to the fall of humanity from unfolding.

You have been chosen to take on this dangerous mission - but time travelers beware! The Frog God is devious, and could be feeding the Resistance’s thirst for Eldritch knowledge simply to accelerate their fall… or his Arrival.
